Day 19 - Boston

Thursday, July 10, 2014

We stayed in a suburb of Boston and took the train (the T) into town to see the Red Sox play the White Sox at Fenway Park. Seth was so excited he got a new Boston hat.

We sat in the bleachers which was wicked hot but we had a great view of the Green Monster.

Seth got the whole family to wear Boston colors.

Alexis and I stayed for the first 5 innings. The score was 1-0 with several of the innings being 3 up 3 down. In the 8th inning things got more exciting and the game was tied up 3-3 by the end of the 9th. The Red Sox pulled off the win in the extra inning.

Alexis and I got picked up by a cab across the street and went for a pretty expensive ride due to heavy traffic. It was my first taxi ride. We got out at the Blue Hills Pavilion for her birthday surprise. When she read Phillip Phillips on the sign, she asked if he was really there or if it would just be him on a screen.

When we got in the first band was playing, so we walked around a bit and got Lex a t-shirt. She was pretty excited to see him. She always calls Phillips Phillips her boyfriend. It's hard to tell from the pictures but we were fairly close to the stage - maybe 20 rows back.

I had not factored in Lex's dislike of loudness. She probably could have used some ear plugs.

He played a lot of his new songs but some of his older favorites as well. I was glad he played Lex's favorite song "Where We Came From".  He had a cello player in his band that was awesome.

OAR came on next. We only knew a few of their songs but we had a great time people watching. The people next to us danced and screamed the whole time and the guy kept trying to run up closer to the stage. It was kinda weird how much all the guys at the concert were into this band, a lot more than the girls.

We left a little early to make sure we made the last train back to the hotel. The police officer outside the pavilion was giving me directions and Lex was just standing there so he asked her if she could speak. It was so funny. We wished we would have had her pretend to do sign language. It was lovely that he was surprised I was her mom, not her friend. He kept telling us we needed to get on the T. We walked a bit and took a bus and walked around a subway station before finding the train station. We had wait about an hour for the next train. On the T, some firefighters got on that were having a bachelor party for one of the guys. They were ridiculously drunk. The one sitting with us wasn't too bad but the one in front of us, the groom, ended up throwing up all over the floor of the train and people had to run and jump over it to get off. We talked to the guys and they thought it was funny that we were from Vegas, visiting Boston, taking a train to West Natick in the middle of the night. They had us cracking up the whole ride home.
