Day 18 - Statue of Liberty

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

We had to check out of our hotel, so we needed to find a parking garage for the van while we went to see the Statue of Liberty. The parking garage was crazy. The worker could park these car in the tiniest spots. We walked down to the Battery Park port and boarded the ferry. The skyline looked awesome from the ferry.

Lex and Seth were really into silly selfies.

Dave hated the ferry because of all the people. We waited until everyone was gone to disembark.

When we were going through security, Lex took a sip of her water and it squirted out of the side of her mouth. This park ranger thought it was hilarious and kept calling her Water Girl.

As we got closer to going into the pedestal, we went through more metal detectors and there was this little Chinese boy ahead of us. He was lost and the security guards couldn't understand him. Somehow, Lex could communicate with him and got him to point toward where his parents were. The security guards asked Lex, "You speak Chinese?"  It was so funny.

We climbed the steps to the pedestal lookout. It was more than I expected and we were so tired!

We climbed back down and took more pictures and had a picnic lunch.

We went on to Ellis Island, which was pretty lame because they had moved many of the artifacts and documents to protect then from Hurricane Sandy and haven't moved them back. We did go in to watch a documentary about immigration and we all took a nap.

It took forever to get out of NY and on to our hotel in Milford, CT. We went out to dinner and watched the end of the World Cup game. Driving through this cute little town reminded me of Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls.
