Day 17 - NYC

Tuesday, July 8, 2014

The New York subway was a bit more confusing and a whole lot more smelly than the DC one.

We went to the 9/11 Memorial Museum. It was a little strange to go somewhere that memorialized something that happened in our lifetime.

The Museum was very powerful and used a lot of video and audio installations to depict the memories people had of that day. Much of the building was made of the remains of the towers.

After the museum we took the subway to midtown and ate at John's Pizza.

Just down the street was our next stop, the Avenger's Exhibition. This interactive activity was a lot of fun. We made S.H.I.E.L.D. ID cards and then went through rooms that featured different Avengers.

We could compare our size and strength to Captain America, our DNA to the Hulk, and used this Wii type game to put on the Iron Man suit and shoot and fly.

Dave and Cam left to eat  "dirty dogs" from a street cart and Lex, Seth, and I went to check out Central Park. We only took the wrong train for one stop. We went to Strawberry Fields honoring John Lennon,

saw the lake (from Enchanted) and boathouse (from 27 Dresses),

and this little lake with little boats (from Stuart Little).

Seth and I took a picture by the Hans Christian Andweson statue (where they have weekly storytimes)

and Seth and Lex took a picture on this very hot Alice in Wonderland statue.

We saw this tunnel (from Kate & Leopold) where couples were taking engagement and wedding pictures.

It sounded like a big choir singing near the lake but it was just the acoustics and big voices were coming from these six.

We found a big sunflower.

On the way back we saw a fashion photo shoot and a guy working on a painting.

After a quick shower, we were ready to see our Broadway Show.

We loved Matilda. The whole cast, especially the kids did a great job. It was very funny and sweet.

The girl playing Matilda was only 9 and was amazing!

We walked up a street after the show and saw Times Square. The billboards wet so big and bright.

On the way back to the hotel, it got very windy and rained a little. Seth wore these sunglasses to keep the wind out of his eyes and because he is just that cool.
