Thanksgiving Weekend

November 27-29, 2014

The Sokol Family came to visit us for the Thanksgiving weekend, giving us the chance to meet our newest cousin, Matthew. The girls stayed with us. We spent Thanksgiving morning with Jac and the kids at Sunset Park, while Jeff went to find deals with the Tatums. We took bread to feed the ducks. Anna and Juliet found this terrifying.

We met up with Jeff and the Tatums and headed over to the faux wood playground. Everyone loved the giant swings.

Then we found a "tighrope" and most us us gave walking across a try.  Only Jeff made it all the way across.

While we played, Dave slaved over a hot turkey fryer, preparing our oddly timed, mid-afternoon dinner. Everyone brought tons of food.  We had been worried about having enough. Silly!

We had 25 people here!

After dinner, we went Black Friday shopping.  Lex hit Walmart with me, then Cam joined me for a Target run.

Lex wasn't feeling well and spent pretty much the rest of the weekend in my bed, making weird whimpering noises.  She was so sick, she didn't argue when I did all her laundry and cleaned out her drawers and closet. It made me so happy for that short time it was clean.

With Lex in bed, missing her tournament games, we were free to go to the adult only dinner at Komex.  It is a Korean-Mexican fusion restaurant and we even tried a frankurito - a burrito filled with hot dogs. The rest of the food was delicious.

By Saturday, Lex was finally well enough to play.  They won their morning game, but lost the evening game.

It was a long, busy weekend.  I loved spending it with family.

Dark Knights

Fall 2014

Fall baseball has always had games on Tuesday nights. Now that Seth is in Scouts, we decided he needed to try another sport so he wouldn't miss out.  Lex talked him into soccer.  His team was called The Dark Knights. Lex went to a lot of his games, and was very frustrated watching.  She tried to give him pointers.

The coaches were nice guys, but with pretty limited understanding of soccer.  Anytime our team got the ball, they would scream, "Shoot, Shoot!"

Seth was pretty good for being so new to the game.  He was a very aggressive, defensive player and was one of the top scorers.

Seth probably would need to work on conditioning to keep playing soccer. He was often out of breath and always left tired from playing his hardest.  He liked soccer, but Seth till thinks that baseball is better.

Varsity Soccer

Fall 2014

Lex played left wing on the Varisty Soccer team again this year.  With our earlier school times, we were able to see all of her games.  Ryan's family usually caught the 2nd half and Jo and Jude came to watch too.

The goalie had to sit out one game and Lex played goalie for a while.  She had one good save but then got scored on once.

The team had shirts made to honor a teacher at their school who had died of cancer.

The team had an awesome season, only losing 1 game and they made it to the playoffs and won their first game but lost the second.  Lex played at her best both nights.

They had a Soccer banquet this year to honor the team and the seniors who are moving on.

Halloween 2014

Thursday, October 30, 2014

On Thursday, we had a dress up day at school for Halloween. Our school has a standard student attire policy (the kids have to wear plain red, white, or blue shirts) so a dress up day is even more appreciated. Seth wore his Fix-it-Felix costume and I dressed as Hermione from Harry Potter because my costume wasn't ready yet.

They had a Track-or-Treat.  The kids went out to the blacktop and got candy from a basket for each class. Seth took a picture with his friend Hayden and his crush Natalie.

We held off on carving our pumpkins until Halloween day.  We had the day off from school to celebrate Nevada Day. Lex just wanted her picture taken carving and then headed up to her room for a nap.  She had gone hiking with friends that morning.  Seth scavenged for pumpkin seeds the whole time.  When we tried roasting them, they got burnt.

We made a Wreck-it-Ralph pumpkin to go with our costumes and a pumpkin eating pumpkin.

Our costumes were from the movie Wreck-it-Ralph.

Seth & Dave

Dave as Ralph

Jen as Sargent Calhoon

Camryn as Vanelope von Schweetz

Seth as Fix-it-Felix

Lex and her friends dressed up as superheroes. Robbie & Lex were Superman & Wonder Woman.

We had our Trunk-or-Treat in the church parking lot. Cam hung out with Heather and later went to Trick-or-Treat in her neighborhood and spend the night at her house.

Seth hung out with Zach, who was dressed as Charlie Chaplin.

I got a pic of Lex with Robbie, Shae, and Rachel and one with her and Lawson Borla. He was dressed as eborla.

The Tatums came in their cute Lego Movie costumes.

Grandma Hill came and passed out our candy for us.

After Trunk-or-Treat, Seth & Zack went Trick-or-Treating around our neighborhood with the Zezlukas.  This is the first time we let them go out on their own. It was a little sad for me.

We also went to the pirate house. This house is amazing. Their decorations are Disney quality. The Captain Jack loved Seth's costume and kept talking to him and saying how cool he was.

It was a great Halloween and we ended up with more candy than we could possibly need.
