Lee scored us cheaper tickets to see George Strait at the TMobile Center. Dave and I went with Jo, Paul, and Paul's grandparents. The concept of the concert was for George to sing his 60 #1 hits - 30 each night. We were there for his older songs-but I knew all the words by heart.

  

 

The highlight for Jo and I was when George "turned the show over to Dusty" and sang the songs from Pure Country. It was a great show and I loved reliving all the memories of my country-loving days.

  

Field Day 2017

We had a "Beachy" themed Field Day this year. I had a great day, with Debbie Witt subbing in for art. we were in charge of the chalk art on the blacktop. We just hung out all morning. Seth and his friend Kristian decorated shirts for the big day. The 5th graders ran the stations for the younger kids and then played themselves. Seth was the captain for their team.

  

Later that afternoon, we played a kickball game - teachers vs the 5th grade all-stars. Seth and I both played. I even scored! Teachers won 9-5. It was a fun day, even though a teacher (Mr. Rooney) split his lip open when he crashed into a student during the game.

We wanted to try a new fundraiser for camp.  The pizzas make a lot of money, but are not well liked. We decided to host a dinner.  We had some of the husbands smoke pork and we made pork sandwiches, with coleslaw, potatoes, and baked beans. I had my procedure done a few days before so I did all the pre-dinner work and just came to the event for a short time.

  

We had a few of the girls perform as dinner entertainment. Cam played and sang "The Rainbow Connection".

 

We ended the night with Cynjyn being the Auctioneer of a dessert auction. We made a good amount of money and enjoyed it so much more than making pizzas.

I had gone to a new doctor in December and he had some high hopes about being able to fix me. We did a test procedure to temporarily simulate what a surgery would do. It sadly, did not work, but has caused me considerable pain. I have sweet friends who did me kindnesses - Kim taught Cam piano lessons at our house so I didn't have to go out and she brought us a yummy dinner. Another anonymous friend left me a basket of "sunshine" to cheer me up.  It has been a hard month, being in pain and letting go of the hope to be healed. I am grateful to those who have helped.

I wasn't up to doing anything fun for St. Patty's Day - no green oatmeal or corn beef and cabbage. I did manage to go through the drive through at McDonald's and get us Shamrock Shakes.

Seth and I went to the Galaxy theater to watch Beauty and the Beast. I was pretty grateful for a theater with seats that reclined. We like the movie despite creepy CGI and auto tuned voices.

USUE Spring Break

Lex came down earlier, but a housefull of boys (Tristen, Fabio, Travis, Jae, and Matt) followed on Sunday. They ate a lot, but were super polite and grateful. They spent Monday cliff jumping - the water was too cold for Lex but she supervised the boys' fun.

Tuesday morning, they all got up and headed off to California. Tristen drove the boys and Lex drove the girls and Fabio.

They checked out the stars on the Hollywood Walk for Fame.

  

They also hiked up near the Hollywood sign.

Thursday was a beach day at Huntington Beach.

  

On Friday, they all headed back home. The rest of the group went back to school and Lex and Tristen stayed in Vegas a few more days.

Ethnicity Reveal

We have always wondered about Alexis' ethnicity. We knew her mom was Basque (basically gypsy), but did not have any information about her biological father. She stopped by my parent's house on the way back to school after Thanksgiving and they talked her into getting a DNA test. My mom had recently done it and they were so curious, they offered to pay for it. Lex had to fill up a little vial with spit and send it into the ancestory.com lab. The results came back a few months later, but only Dave and I saw them and we kept it a secret. When Lex came for Spring Break we had a little Ethnicity Reveal Party. When people arrived, they wrote their guesses on this poster (some people texted their guesses in). Bo guessed she was Mexican and they dressed the part.

  

We had bought a few items that represented, Lex's newly found heritage, and wrapped them up with the DNA results.

 

We had her open the package and she found out that she is 27% Native American, 24% British, and 16% Iberian Peninsula (gypsy). 

  

We had gotten her a dream catcher tshirt, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, and turquoise jewelry.

  

She took lots of pictures and had Indian Fry Bread with lots of toppings - butter, honey, jams. Dave had also stopped at the Reservation on the way home from the Man Trip and had gotten fireworks, which we set off when the wind died down. It was our big finale on a fun night.
