Utah Adventures

July 23-28, 2018

Monday we met up with Grandma and Grandpa Jenkins in St. George. We had dinner together and went to Tuachan to see the musical "The Prince of Egypt". It was so hot but it was a good play. The water effects at the end were especially cool and cooled down the amphitheater as well. We followed Grandma and Grandpa home and spent the night at their house.

Tuesday we went down to the street to watch the Paragonah Primary put on a little parade for Pioneer Day. The theme was Be Kind and the kids dressed up as bees. It was very cute.

After the parade, we went into the church for a program. The primary sang and the DUP had a trivia game about Utah facts. Grandma Jenkins conducted the program.

The town had a pie auction and a pulled pork lunch, which we enjoyed before heading up to the cabin.

On Wednesday, we had a quiet, relaxing day at the cabin. The boys rode the ATVs and fished, Seth practiced archery (he taped a balloon to the target and popped it with an arrow), and watched the Hunger Game Series.

We spent Thursday heading up to the Salt Lake area. We popped in a Jacquelynn's as they headed off on a trip, then hung out on Temple Square with Lex. We got a tour of the Conference Center and checked out an art exhibit at the Church History Museum. The rest of the family rented bikes and pedaled around, while I hung out on Temple Square.

We went to the Nauvoo Cafe for dinner. We didn't love it, but Seth thought his drink we very Hulkish.

We tried to come up with something to do but everything closes really early.

We finally decided to go to Fats Cats to bowl. We played 2 games.

Friday morning we picked up Lex from the Upchurch's house, where she is staying temporarily, and drove out to Barefoot Tubing. The took us in a bus up the Weber River and we spent about an hour and a half floating down. Only Dave fell out and he lost his hat. I was the slowest because I only paddle with one hand.

It was a fun activity, but very tiring. We went to lunch and had Lex show us Weber State, where she will be going to school this year. It is very pretty and green. We dropped her off and went to see where The Sandlot was filmed. It was in the middle of a neighborhood and was fenced off and unkept. It was pretty disappointing.

We had about an hour to clean up and rest at Jacquelynn's before we went to see a community theater production of Big. It was pretty cute and the lead was great. The big piano they made to dance on was pretty cool.

Saturday we picked up Cam, Sydney, and Tyler from EFY at BYU and headed home. We were sore and tired from being on the river the day before.

Scout Camp

June 14-16, 2018

July 9-14, 2018

Seth went to his first (and maybe last) Scout Camp. He earned the woodcarving, leatherwork, pulp and paper, forestry, environmental science (it was very boring), geology, and nature merit badges.

They had to dig out stairs as part of a service project.

They did rock climbing. Seth made it to the top twice. It was scary.

The food was really good. Seth liked the Friday night ribs the best.

Seth really liked some of the camp leaders, like Caleb. He enjoyed his week but came home all bitten up from mosquitos.

Cabin Trip and 4th of July

July 1-4, 2018

We decided to head up to the cabin for a few days. We left after church on Sunday. We got up there and got settled. We spent the evening playing card games and then Cam and I watched the first Twilight movie. We had a goal to watch the whole series up there and we laughed and made snarky comments through them all. I'm all about goals this summer.

On Monday, Dave and the kids spent most of the day riding the ATVs that Lee left up there for the summer. They love cruising around. I mostly read.

That evening my parents came up and joined us for dinner. After dinner Dad, Dave, and Seth took off to fish, while Cam and I made my mom watch Eclipse with us.

Tuesday was filled with more ATV riding and a trip to the Burger Barn for Shakes.

After dinner we had a little fire and made S'mores.

Wednesday morning we cleaned and headed back to Vegas. Lex and her friend Tyti (who she has been living with) had come down to visit friends and were here when we got back. That night Seth went to his friend Billy's house to hang out and set off fireworks before they came back here to set off ours.

Lex still hates the loud whistles and bangs.

It was kind of an anticlimactic night, but it was good to have everyone together, even for a little while. Lex had to be back in Utah for work on Thursday so they left very early the next morning.

42, Part 2

July 6, 2018

I had a pre-birthday lunch with Kim and Andrea. I was very happy to get out of the house. They picked me up and took me to Cheesecake Factory. I had my favorite chicken and the server overheard it was my birthday and brought me a little treat.

Dave had a toothache an actually had a tooth pulled that afternoon. I tried to let him out of my birthday day, but he insisted we go. He had gotten tickets to "She Loves Me" at Spring Mountain Ranch. He couldn't eat, so we took up mashed potatoes for him and a sub for me. The play was fairly cute and I was pretty happy for a night out.
