Lex's Luau

Monday, July 13, 2015

Lex's birthday was one of the few days she was in town that month. I had her pose with the dress she was wearing when we met her. She has come a long way from that fiesty 2 1/2  year old we met that day.

Lex spent the day with Robby. He took her to breakfast and to The Secret Garden to see the tigers at the Mirage. They also tried to go ice skating but it was closed. Grandma Hill and Robby cam over for dinner - Parmesan crusted chicken. Lex and her friends went to the drive-ins that night.

At the end of the night, Lex and Robby decided it was time to break-up, so he could prepare to go on his mission in September.  Their plan is to stay friends and see what happens when he gets back.

It took a few weeks after her birthday for us and the majority of her friends to all be in town, but we were finally able to have a birthday party for Lex. She wanted a luau themed party and luckily our neighbor was going to be out of town and he let us use their amazing backyard. I made this Tiki cake for her.

We also had pasts salad, fruit, buckets of chips and crackers, and ham sliders. We planned a few games but never got around to them.

The kids (particularly the boys) spent almost the whole time running and jumping into the pool from the porch roof. My job was to make sure they didn't do anything too dangerous.

We set up a photo booth that may have been cuter during the day.

Camp Kolob 2015

July 7-11, 2015

This year was Lex's 2 year as a YCL and her last year at camp. It was also Cam's 1st year.  Dave was going up as Priesthood and I was asked to go when the camp director got sick. So the whole family was up there except Seth who spent the week with Lee's family.

On Tuesday, we met early at the church to head up to Kolob. The road into camp was closed for construction at certain times so we had to wait a bit to drive in. They had us hike the last bit into camp and the YCL's tried to teach us some skills on the way. We met up with Lex on our way down. She had gone up the day before.

We set up camp including this giant RV covering that we put up over the table to keep the rain off throughout the week. The bishop was really excited about this giant structure.

That night the stake provided dinner and then we had skit night. Lex was Pocahontas in the YCL skit.

Our Ward did a parody of Tangled. The highlight was when Bishop spoke all the villain's lines while Kimber lip synched them.

It was fun to watch Lex lead the Opening Ceremonies Wednesday morning.

Dave and I took the 1st years down to the Lower Camp to go repeling and finish up some first aid certification.

Lex and Summer were assigned to repelling the whole week.  They did a great job of working with the younger girls. they were very encouraging. Cam started out slow, but picked it up near the bottom.

Wednesday afternoon I took the 1st years to the shooting range.  Cam did pretty well.

Everyone loved our camp chairs. Dave took a few good naps in his.

The theme for the week was GEMS (Girls Ever Mindful of their Spiritual Selves). The stake had a little wading pool where the girls could pan for jewels to trade for prizes.

Wednesday night we had a little lesson around the campfire and the YCL's took the younger girls snipe hunting. they told them to put toothpaste on their faces to attract the snipes.

Thursday morning our ward presented the flag ceremony and then the whole camp cleared brush for the service project.

We packed up lunches and headed to the reservoir for canoeing. A few canoes tipped including the Bishop and his girls.  Cam and her friends got tipped when Chole tried to climb in too.

Some boys from the Scout Camp brought our girls flowers and thanked them for their modesty.  Awww!

Back at camp girls showered, worked on their spiritual challenge, and crafted.

I took a few girls to look for the time capsule. we couldn't find it so we had to get Dave to help.  We finally found it and read letters they had written to themselves 2 years before. Most of the girls included who they liked at the time so that was pretty funny.

Thursday night was a night hike where we stopped throughout the camp and the YCL gave presentations about the theme. The rain held off, as I predicted, until shortly after the program.

Friday morning included scripture study,

ziplining (I did it upside down too!),

and more repelling for Lex.

Rachel cam up as a leader. I really enjoyed spending time with her and my Sunday school girls, Cynjyn and Emma.

Friday night we had a "Legendary" made by the priesthood. It was giant steaks!

Shae, Lex, and Summer recreated some photos of the last time they had been to Kolob and the water was so gross.  I had to buy them water at the little store near the lake. This time I had brought them water just in case.

Saturday, we had a Closing Ceremony and the Priesthood had to do Brown Squirrel for us.

Most of us had never been to Swig so we stopped for cookies on the way home.  We were happy to get home and get clean.

4th of July

Saturday, July 4, 2015

Bo invited us to join him and his inlaws for some volleyball the morning of the 4th. I just helped with babies while the rest of the family played.

Later we went to Bo & Abigail's house for a BBQ. Wally was so cute in his red, white, and blue.

Later we met Bo & his little family at Lee's house. Lee was out of town, but we enjoyed his pool and ate a bunch of leftovers for dinner.

We went out to the street and lit the fireworks that we had bought. It was Seth's first time lighting them and he was a little nervous. We tired to watch the fireworks at the Red Rock Hotel form Lee's balcony, but other houses were blocking our view.

Lex hung out with Andrea and Robby that night. She took lots of sparklers with her.

The following night, the Tatums brought over the fireworks they hadn't set off on the 4th.  They had some bigger ones (Lex still hates the noise) and they had sparklers! We didn't have any the night before and I love getting sparkler pictures of the kids.  They turn out so cute.
