Over the River and Through the Woods

Friday, May 28, 2010

We headed up to Grandma's cabin by Panguitch Lake for Memorial Day Weekend. We left right after school on Friday and I let everyone be responsible for their own things this time - I thought I would go crazy, trying to get out of town with everything everyone needed. By the time we got to the cabin it was about time for the little people to go to bed. Me, my mom, Lex and DAVE watched Dear John projected on the wall (we love to project movies). It was a little better than the book - someone died!

Saturday was cold and windy. The afternoon was better so Grandpa suggested we take the kids shooting.

It was Camryn and Seth's first time shooting. They did pretty good with the noise.

When it was Seth's turn we could barely cock the hammer back before he pulled the trigger - totally the fastest gun in the west.

Alexis hated the noise and had a little trouble with the whole turning your head to talk to someone without moving the gun and accidentally pointing it at them. I had to run out of the way pretty quick.

I'm not sure who hit the pop can targets the most, but I put on the best show, sending the cans flying in the air. Grandpa brought golf balls to shoot, just to see what happened. They were barely dented in and only one popped into the air.

After shooting, Grandma Jenkins treated us to ice cream at the store near the lake.

Sunday we slept in and we had to go to church at noon, instead of 10 o'clock. After church and naps, Grandpa wanted to take the kids to see the Salmon spawn in a Fish Sex Ed Class Part II. I think spring has lasted a little too long, and they weren't in the mood (it was just too cold), so we went for a ride.

That night we had a campfire and made Smores after dinner. Then we watched The Fantastic Mr. Fox, which was a little bit quirky and funny and a whole lot of weird.

We took the kids canoeing Monday morning. When we pulled up, there were so many bugs I was afraid to talk because I didn't want to eat any. All the kids got a turn and then the men went fishing. After lunch we headed back to town, watching movies all the way home.
