Football in Flagstaff

May 17-19, 2013

Ryan and I signed our LV Galaxy team up for a tournament in Flagstaff, AZ.  I wanted to be able to leave when the girls got out of school, so I took the day off and took the Littles to dentist and eye appointments. We met up at Ryan's house and took off.  I had Juline, Addie, and Heidi in my car and Ryan took Lex, the twins, and Grace. The car ride included listening to Juline's terrible music and an even more terrible song she wrote "Everybody deserves a second chance..." We stopped by McDonald's for dinner.  Heidi hadn't brought money and wouldn't let me buy her anything.  She joked with a boy in line that he should buy her a McFlurry and he did.  We found out that he is LDS and his name is Joe, so we called him Joe McFlurry.

We got to Flagstaff and went to check in for the tournament.  They had an old players list so we had to fix that and we had to prove that we had paid our fees.  We went and picked up some groceries and headed to the cabin we had borrowed. While we were waiting to get in the girls told scary stories and made creepy faces.

The girls all slept in the loft and I was on the couch under them.  They were pretty quiet until about 4:00 in the morning.  I do remember hearing "Oh, crap, I forgot my cleats!" sometime in the night.  So the next morning we had breakfast and headed to Big 5 to get Heidi some new cleats.

We played an older team and we were way outmatched the first game.  It was a hard loss, but we lifted spirits by having lunch at Chick-Filet, Ryan's favorite.

We hung out at the field and waited for our next game.

We won our second game, with Sydney and Heidi scoring (it was the new cleats!)

We were in a great mood and the whole team went to Sizzler for dinner.  Dinner was followed by another night at the cabin with screaming about bugs in the shower, Grace having a bloody nose, and being woken up at 4:00 in the morning by a cell phone buzzing.

We had a third game on Sunday morning.  We were evenly matched, but just couldn't finish to score.  After the game we took a bunch of pictures, knowing it was our last game together.

The girls had gotten these tattoos at the restaurant the night before.

Galaxy was so successful  the first year, but when had to pick up new players after a few got picked off, with the girls being busier now that they were in HS, and the girls just showing less commitment, the second year was so hard.  We decided to break up the team.  It was a difficult decision and I miss the girls. I was glad to have this last, fun weekend together.
