NRW

February 26-March 2, 2018

This year's theme for our school was Superheros, so I continued with that for Nevada Reading Week.

Monday was Captain America Day. The kids wore red, white, and blue and played a game where they had to guess which teacher was behind the book in front of their face.

Tuesday was The Flash Day. The kids wore sports and workout clothes and did author activities. We had an author come visit the 3-5th graders and share about his books and his writing process.

Wednesday was Wonder Woman Day. The kids were to dress up as their favorite book characters. I was the Very Hungry Caterpillar. We also played Book Bingo at the end of the day.

Thursday was Superman Day and the students were supposed to be super readers and read all the wordy shirts. I gave a prize to the student in each class that had the most words on their shirt. I wore my Jane Eyre shirt with all the characters names on it. The kids did a Poetry activity that day.

Friday was Batman Day and we wore PJs because Batman comes out at night. The students were supposed to buddy read with other grade levels that day.

Throughout the week, guest readers came and visited classes. The firemen were the favorites.

We also tracked the number of words the students read through AR. The goal was for the students to read a total of 4,000,000 words and they met their goal. They got to choose 2 teachers to throw pie in their face. They chose Ms. O'Brien and Mr. Wobeck who were good sports about it.

Reading Week is always exhausting but the kids have a good time.
