One White Dolphin Book Club Party

Thursday, January 9, 2014

I spent most of my Thursday mornings this fall running a book club.  We chose to read One White Dolphin because it was nominated for the Nevada Young Reader Awards.  It was a story about an English girl trying to help save an injured, albino dolphin and the reef near her home. It was a pretty long book with lots of social issue discussed, but the kids stuck with it and we had fun reading it.  I found videos that had to do with the text and provided lots of treats.  We finished the book right before Winter Break, so we met one more time to celebrate finishing the book.  Camryn participated in the club and Seth got invited because he was always stuck in the library for meetings.

At the party, the kids painted like dolphins with the brushes in their mouths.

We played pin the tail on the dolphin and tried to catch goldfish crackers in their mouths like a dolphin.  We ate cups of jello with Swedish fish in them and frosted fish shaped cookies.  The kids had a good time and it was well deserved for finishing the whole book.
