Sadies 2015

January 19, 2015

Robbie had asked Lex to Homecoming with her favorite song, so she wanted to ask him to Sadies by using quotes from one of his favorite movies, Forrest Gump. She sent her friends to his house every 10 or 15 minutes with a quote from the movie and a little something to go with it.

I'm not a smart man, but I know what a good date is. (Smarties)

My name is Alexis. Alexis Hill. (A pic of Lex)

You is my best good friend. And even I know that ain't something you can find just around the corner.
(A pic of Lex & Robbie)

Me and you goes together like peas and carrots. (Frozen peas & carrots)

That's all a got to say about that. (Nothing)

I'm asking you out. We won't go to Vietnam. It's a whole nother country. (A map of Vietnam)

Stupid is as stupid does - Go outside. Don't be stupid and say no. (Dum Dums)

The signs say - Life is like a box of chocolates. You never what you're gonna get. But I know what I'll get if you go to Sadies with me. The best date ever! (Chocolates on a bench)

He said "Yes".

Lex found some plaid shirts online and got a Transformer tshirts, flag socks, and gray Vans to go with them. Robbie had his ACT testing on the big day, so they missed the brunch at Paige's and got there near the end of all the picture taking. It was a big group - this wasn't even all of the kids.

Lex caught in a genuine laugh while trying to pretend to laugh.

Robbie & Alan needed to take pics together without their girls, so then the girls did too.

Trying to make a pyramid and failing.

Showing off their patriotic socks.

They were off to the park to play laser tag archery and they played some Amazing Race games.

They also took more pics.

They went to an arcade and had dinner from Cafe Rio brought in. Then they headed to Fast Track Go-Karting.

They had a treat at In-n-Out on the way back to Shae's, where there were more snacks and a projected movie, The Great Gatsby.

It was a long day, but everyone had a good time.

January 2015

January 2015

We started out the year right by going to the Seafood Buffet at GVR for all you can eat crab legs with Jolynn, Paul, and Dianna.  We got so full!

When we went back to school, I the first week back was Campfire Storytelling Week. It is my favorite week of the year.

Seth got Hawk of the Month for Library because he had reached the most AR Reading goals in the upper grades.  He got a certificate and a donut.

Mom & Dad were in town so we invited them to dinner and tried a new Italian restaurant in our area, Angelina's.  They had a crooner serenading the patrons.  He was very Rat Packish.

I really like the food.  I had Chicken Marsala and they made it a little spicy.

Then we went next door to a little vintage shop, where they had lots of tin signs from the 50's. They had about 100 different types of rootbeer and they had candy cigarettes.

So I taught Seth to use seeing his breath in the morning, to look like he was smoking.  One of my few good memories of Ryan as a kid, was fake smoking at the gate in front of Ferron, waiting for the bell to ring so we could go play.

One Saturday, Cam talked me into taking her to the Dollar Store to get Mentos and Coke so she could do a little science project.

Lex had a tournament over Martin Luther King Day weekend, so of course, she got really sick and I took her to the Quick Care. Her throat was gross!

She still played.

Dave and I watched a romantic comedy called "What If". The characters talked about how Elvis would fly to Colorado just to get a Fool's Gold Sandwich and we decided to try it. It is French Bread smothered in butter and cooked in the oven, then sliced open and filled with peanut butter, jelly, and bacon. It was very peanut buttery.

One of our Mutual activities in January was to make a Pixar inspired creation out of recycled materials. Lex and Rachel made the Up house and characters with the help of Sister Witt and I.

For Peace Week, Seth and I wore our tie-dyed shirts.

Schofield had a Spirit Week, too.  Cam dressed up on tutu day and twin day.

I hosted book club in January.  We read Between Shades of Gray. It is the story of a Lithuanian girl who survives being deported to a Soviet work camp during Stalin's regime. This tragedy is so rarely spoken of and I was so uninformed about this period of time. This book lent itself to a great discussion.

I tried to make Lithuanian food - stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, and a rather bland apple cake.

We had a busy month.
