Day 23 - Niagara Falls

Monday, July 14, 2014

We have been reading a chapter from The Great Brain, here and there during our driving time.  We finished the book today.  The Littles loved it and are ready for the next book.  My mom read this series to my family when I was a kid and I am happy to pass them on to the next generation. We finished up right before hitting the border crossing into Canada and I got my 1st stamp in my passport!

We used Trip Adviser to find a place to eat and ended up at the Blue Line Diner which was attached to a sports memorabilia store, owned by former hockey pro, Marcel Dionne.  We chatted with him quite a bit. The restaurant was a breakfast joint and all the food was great.

I finally got to do my big activity, the Hornblower Cruise.  I had been to Niagara Falls before, but had not been able to ride one of the boats that go to the bottom of the Falls.  The Maid of the Mist (Jim & Pam got married on one in The Office) had been sold to the American side and so we went on one of these brand new Canadian boats.  We looked pretty dorky in our ponchos, but I was glad we had them.  We got pretty wet.

The Falls were so powerful and amazing!

We took lots of pics.  Seth and Lex are usually the funniest.

We had to walk pretty far to go to "The Journey Behind the Falls".  We were in flip flops, so our feet got pretty sore and Lex's were rubbing against her mosquito bites. We appreciate our tennis shoes so much more now.  When we got there we had to wait about an hour to go down to the tunnels, so we hung out in the gift shop and had frozen strawberry lemonades.

We finally got down to the tunnels and got to look out two spots that were behind the Falls and an observation deck right next to the Falls. We got pretty wet again and but it was an awesome view and we saw a rainbow.

We walked all the way back to Clifton Hill, where they had rides and games.  The Littles wanted to go into this Haunted House. Dave took them.  They said it was pretty scary but mostly just dark.  Dave had to turn on his phone's flashlight to help some other people get out. I took Lex to go get a SPICY CHICKEN SANDWICH at Wendy's.  She has been asking for one throughout the whole trip.

When we got to the hotel, we took the Littles swimming, then Lex and Seth went to the fitness center to work out.  Seth has run a mile on the treadmill a few times.  They are turning into workout buddies!
