We were driving from DC to NY and thought we would visit Philly, which is almost right in between. We got our tickets for Independence Hall and had just enough time to see the Liberty Bell before our tour.
Then we took a few pictures in front of the Hall.
This is the Signing Room where both the Declaration and the Constitution were signed. The chair in the back was the one George Washington actually used in meetings here.
We also went into the Congress Hall where the first Congress met for about 10 years. We also saw the Articles of Confederation and the 1st printed copy of the Declaration of Independence which was read publicly on July 8th, 1776 in the town square where we ate our lunch.
We got our lunch from a food truck so Dave could have an authentic Philly Cheesesteak.
We walked back to the Visitor's Center where our car was parked and took a pic with these reenactors. The one in the middle was dressed as General Henry Knox and when he saw my shirt had a quote from Thomas Jefferson, he went into a loud speech about who he was and not liking Jefferson.
We drive on through New Jeresy to the Lincoln Tunnel and into Manhattan, where we are staying in Hell's Kitchen.
We wanted to walk around a bit and the High Line wasn't too far so we decided to check it out. Jo and Paul had really liked it. It is a garden walkway over the city, built on old train tracks. It reminded me of the book The Curious Garden by Peter Brown.
Cam had wanted to stay in the room and watch a movie. She was a little grumpy until we stopped at McDonald's for ice creams or a smoothie on the way back to our room.
