Everything is Awesome!

Friday, October 17, 2014

Seth turned 9! His birthday was on a Friday, so we had his party that day. He wanted a Lego Movie party, so we watched it, took notes, and got a lot of ideas.

As the party started, the boys just built with Legos while we waited for everyone to get there.

When everyone was there, I read the prophecy from the movie and told the boys that they would need to find the piece of resistance (lid) to stop the Kragle (Krazy Glue). Their job was to look for it as we played games that represented all the places that Emmett visited in the movie.

First, Emmett visited the Old West. The kids had to see how many tiny snakes they could drop in the boot.

Joel made a really funny squinty face, but it didn't help, Seth still got the most in.

Next, Batman rescued Emmett, so the boys played hot potato, passing a Batman button while Batman's song played - "Darkness! No parents!" It's really weird music.

Emmett then visited Middle Zealand, filled with castles and dragons.  We played storm the castle.  One team tried to tap the balloons onto the trampoline, while the other team used pool noodles to knock them off.  The team that had the most knocked off at the end of the "Everything is Awesome" song won. The game didn't work out as well as I wanted, because the balloons kept popping.  The boys still had fun with it though.

Cloud Coo Coo Land was the next stop.  Emmett traveled up a rainbow to get there, then Lord Business destroyed the whole world - so the boys destroyed the rainbow pinata.

Emmett ended up in the ocean and was saved by pirates, so the boys had to walk the plank.  We gave them different ways to cross the board like hopping on one foot.  If you fell, you were out.  Cole and Kade tied. They are both very athletic.

Back at Bricksburg, the boys played Pin the Pants on Larry (from the TV show Honey, Where Are My Pants?) We made this bucket to go over their heads but it didn't work, so we ended up using a blindfold instead.

We took a few group pics.

Then it was time for Taco Tuesday.

Seth opened his presents. He got a lot of Legos and a sleeping bag that will be great for scout camp outs.

Then it was time for cake, Seth's favorite- lemon.

Kyler found the piece of resistance inside his slice of cake! He is The Special!

The boys finished the night by watching the Lego Movie projected on our wall in our front yard.

Seth loved his party.  It was awesome!

Homecoming 2014

Saturday, October 11, 2014

After all the shopping and preparation, the Homecoming date finally arrived.  The night before, Robbie had bruised his liver in the football game.  He spent most of the morning in the ER and we were just glad that he felt up to going and that he would be alright.  He and his parents came to our house for Robbie to pick her up and exchange the boutonniere and corsage. We needed Robbie's mom to do the pinning.

They headed off to the Gardens at St. Rose Hospital for pictures. They took pictures for about an hour and a half.

LEX

The Group took a party bus to the Venetian, where the couples rode the gondolas.  Lex said their gondolier was funny and a good singer.

After their ride, they had dinner at Buca de Beppo in the Excalibur.  Their next stop was the giant ferris wheel at the Linq.  Music played as they went around, so when a slow song came on Robbie asked Lex to dance. (He knew I was upset that there was no dance for Homecoming this year and that it was important to me that Lex had at least one dance.)

The last stop was the NY NY Roller Coaster.  The group had a great time and Lex was lucky to have a sweet boy take her on her first dance date (where there was no dance).
