Urban Campfire

Saturday, January 7, 2012

I found these giant marshmallows at the store and thought they would be fun to roast. I thought we would do it over the grill outside, but it was cold and windy. We used the stove instead.

Big!

Huge!

Gigantic!

Yum!

Happy New Year 2012!

Saturday, December 31, 2011 - Sunday, January 1, 2012

We spent New Year's Eve at Ryan's. Madison was off to the dance before we even got there and the triplets (Lex & the twins) went to a party at the Haycocks'.

The younger kids played Wii and watched a movie, while the adults played their own games and everyone eat a lot.

Things were quieter without the older kids and Camryn dozed off for a while.

At midnight we all toasted with our sparkling cider.

And the older kids taught Seth to chug from the bottle.

On New Year's Day we went to Aunt Judi's to celebrate her birthday and eat Honey Baked Ham. Our cousin Paula was in town and it was great to visit with her too. It was a good way to start the New Year.

1st Tooth

Friday, December 30, 2011

Seth had been working on his loose tooth for a while. On Friday, he tried to eat an apple, but he said it was hurting his tooth. I looked and it was hanging by a thread. I quickly pulled it and Seth put it under his pillow. He was very excited to have his first visit from the tooth fairy.

What a Week!

December 26-31, 2011

Over our winter break, we spent a lot of time with our cousins. Lee and his family were here for Christmas. The day after, we met up at Sammy's for lunch. Our kids loved the burgers - Uncle Bo would be thrilled. That night, Caden and Mason came over for a sleepover. The next day they went home, leaving us with the flu they had brought with them!

On Thursday, Jacquelynn's family came for a visit. That night, the older kids babysat the the younger ones, while the adults went out to dinner. We went to Lindo Michoacan, it had a great view overlooking the city. It was nice to visit all together. After dinner we decided to go get $1 Fried Oreos at the Fremont Street Experience. It was so smokey and there were a lot of freaks out that night, but it was all part of the experience.

That night, Anna and Juliet spent the night. They watched movies, played, and had a tea party.

Friday night we decided to go see the free circus acts at Circus Circus. We got there - which was a lot of walking for me and my broken foot! - and we waited forever. Camryn started not to feel well, so Dave and I took her home and everyone else stayed and watched an act and then went to the Bellagio and City Center.

Saturday we went to the buffet at Green Valley Ranch with Jolynn and the Sokols. The kids loved it. They ate a little food and a ton of ice cream and their body weight in Jello!

My Heart Will Go On and On

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

There is a story in the 3rd grade reading book about the Titanic and every 3rd grader in Las Vegas is obsessed. Camryn asked for a ticket to see the Titanic Exhibit at the Luxor for Christmas. We went the Tuesday after Christmas - it was free for teachers day!

As you walked in, we were given passage tickets with information about a real passenger on the back. They showed film and photos of the ship being built and recreations of rooms the passengers stayed in, along with many artifacts that have been recovered form the ship.

This area looked like the deck of the ship overlooking the sea.

There was a huge iceberg in one room and the largest section of the ship that has been brought up in another room. It was huge, but when we saw the diagram of where that piece fit on the ship, it was just a very small section. I have a better understanding of why the ship was named Titanic.

At the end of the exhibit, we could look up whether the passengers on our tickets survived the disaster. We both lived!
