Back to School

Monday, August 29, 2011

After a long summer together, it was time to head back to school.

Alexis started 8th grade.

We all leave together, dropping Alexis and two other girls at the middle school.

Then Seth, Camryn and I head across town to Fong ES, where I got a job as a librarian.

Camryn is in Mrs. Mezanrich's 3rd grade class.

Seth is in Mrs. Landsem's full-day kindergarten class.

They both love their teachers and have made new friends at their new school. I am still learning to adjust to be back at work and my library is a huge work in progress!

On our last day in SLC, we went back into the city. On the way in it started to rain - we were not prepared for wet weather! Our first stop was the library. I loved it, especially the children's library. There were paper mache creatures all over and little rooms for kids to read in. One looked like Superman's Fortress of Solitude.

Then we took TRAX, the public train down to the Church Museum. They have a children's section, with Book of Mormon activities like building a temple,

trying to lift a replica of the gold plates, and activities from the modern day Book of Mormon lands - like dancing in these huge skirts.

When we left, it was really raining. Our next stop was the Conference Center. We had to duck under the eaves of the Tabernacle to try to keep dry. We took a very shortened tour at the Conference Center.

Our family in front of the Temple:

We met Uncle Jeff for lunch - another Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives pick. This was was a big dump, with big huge sandwiches. We headed back to Jack's to pack up and go. The kids were so sad to leave, especially Cam.

We drove back down to Cove Fort to spend the night with Grandma and Grandpa. Tuesday we got up and went to check out the work being done on the cabin, then finally made it home. It was a fun, busy week and we were so tired!

Sunday in Salt Lake

Sunday, July 31, 2011

Juliet was sick (all cousins seem to get the flu if they get near us) on Sunday. Jack and Jeff tagged teamed church, but we went and strangely, I went to Sunday School and Relief Society. I'm usually in Primary.

After church we took the kids down to temple square and did the tour. We had sisters from China as our tour guides. They were super sweet. Camryn asked a lot of thought provoking questions. We walked through the Visitor's Center and watched the Joseph Smith movie.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night!

Saturday, July 30, 2011

That night we went to the Mayan for dinner. When you walk in, the waiting area looks like where you stand in line for the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland. They serve very Americanized Mexican food, which I love.

Every 20 minutes there is a little show. At one end of the restaurant, it is completely covered in rocks and cliff divers jump from it and fire dancers come out and twirl fire around. It was a fun place to eat.

After dinner, Jeff and Jack took all the little kids home and Dave and I took Alexis to a Real Salt Lake Professional Soccer game.

The team played horribly, but we still had a good time. We were sitting by all the crazy fan groups. They had a band and sang the whole game. One player's dad was sitting a few rows behind us and was so mad that Salt Lake was sucking it up, that he swore in his British accent throughout the game.

When we got back to the Sokol's house, the neighbors were all finishing off their July fireworks, so we got out some sparklers too.
