A Hunting We Will Go

Saturday, April 23, 2011

On Saturday, we met up with the kids at Uncle Ryan's house. The cousins had had a sleepover at Aunt Jo's the night before. A phone call woke me up at 10, or I think I would have slept through it. The dads hid the eggs in the backyard, while the moms finished getting lunch ready. Then it was time to hunt.

We had hard boiled dyed eggs...

We had plastic eggs filled with candy...

And we had confetti eggs!

The kids had a good time, then we went in to have a good lunch - meat & cheese sandwiches with chips and grapes.

After lunch, Chris, Madison, Donna and I went to see "Water for Elephants". It was a good book and maybe a better movie.

It was time to dye Easter eggs. I had bought a kit at the $1 store that didn't even have the white waxy crayon in it. We decided to try using regular crayons and it worked great. The kids drew pictures with the crayons then used the dye for the background color.

We had a busy Spring Break. Monday, we met up with some other families at Anthem Park. It was windy and miserable, but the kids had a good time. Tuesday, we met up at the Colonnade for $5 Tuesday. Lee was in town, so the cousins went too. We took the little ones to see HOP, and Chris took the bigger girls to see Soul Surfer. Thursday, we met up to go on a hike at Red Rock.

We started down the path and went left at the fork. We ended up at a dead end. We turned around and "chose the right" and hiked to a little waterfall.

The kids climbed around the rocks and ate snacks for a while.

Alexis saw a toad hopping around in the rocks and Savannah, a girl in our ward, caught him. The kids were grossed out but loved it.

We drove over to a little picnic area after the hike for lunch. The wind kicked up, and the kids and parents were getting tired and cranky so we headed home.

Friday, we cleaned the garage some more - it was a week long process and had a relaxing BBQ lunch at the Mitchell's. It was fun to hang out with the neighbors and have a quiet afternoon after a busy week.

Surprise!

Friday, April 1, 2011

We threw my parents a surprise Open House to give family and friends a chance to say goodbye before they leave on their 18 month mission to Cove Fort, Utah. Our family watches "Amazing Race" over at Ryan's house every week and we had been staying after to cook up the plans. Sometimes we had to wait a while for the folks to leave and we thought they were getting suspicious. We had the Bishop set up an appointment to get them to their church on Friday. We saw that they were sitting out in the truck waiting for the Bishop, so finally we ran out of the church and yelled "Surprise!"

We had set up a table with pictures of our family and a cake that I had made. Then we had tables with fishbowls on them filled with goldfish crackers (a long time family joke - for my wedding we had asked Lee to get goldfish and he brought back crackers instead of actual fish.) We had sandwiches, fruit & veggie platters, and cupcakes. The folks had a good time hanging out with family and friends. We are going to miss them and it will be a big adjustment to have them gone. I know that this sacrifice will be outweighed by the blessings we will receive for their service.
